|
|
Hi everybody, I have some questions for anybody that knows anything about tandem nursing during a high risk pregnancy.
I just found out I am seven weeks and I am still very actively nursing my two year old daughter. I do NOT want to wean her. Last time my cervix started opening at 31 weeks and I was on bed rest. She ended up being born at 35 weeks 5 days.
Does anybody have any advice?
I don't know if they will put at my high risk again, but I want to be armed when I go in. I don't want some doctor telling me to wean my daughter unless it is medically necessary.

Hey, Congratulations!
I have nothing to add about your question, but I did want to say how exciting your news is. I hope everything goes well for you. |

Thanks, I am excited and overwhelmed. The nausea has started, but at least at the end I know the bundle of joy I get. _________________ A Lactivist:

I would say you could probably nurse her until 31 weeks or until you felt like you might be having contractions and then stop, maybe you could gradually wean her and then when the baby is born, let her nurse again after that.
I would try to do some research on why you went into early labor last time.
Any thoughts on that?
Have you heard of the Brewer diet? It is supposed to prevent hypertension, although I don't know if you had that before.
Also, if your husband is on any prescription meds you should have him use a condom during intercourse because these drugs enter the semen and are absorbed vaginally and have caused problems to the offspring that could be related to preterm birth. I can't remember if your husband is on SSRIs but those increase preterm birth five-fold if the mother is taking them, I don't know how much it affects the baby if it's exposure through semen absorbed into the mother.
Also the prostaglandins in semen can cause contractions so it's generally a good idea anyway if you have a history of early labor.
The nursing does cause contractions but that is generally not an issue until the uterus has more receptor cells, which it seems like for you was an issue earlier. My contractions started at about 34 weeks with Toby while I was nursing Isaac, and he wasn't born until almost 40 weeks. _________________ http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-the-dangerous-and-invasive-mothers-act

Amy:
Thanks for the info. Currently I am on Prednisone because of a really severe eye condition I have, "necrotizing scleritis," but I am being weaned off those. He doesn't take any type of drugs and I was on Zoloft, but had weaned myself at the beginning of my pregnancy. I have no idea why it started opening early. We did refrain from sex as well.
Good to know though. She nurses so much and I don't want to take it away from her, unless the baby's life was at risk. So many people know so little about tandem nursing and some have expressed complete horror that I would like to do that, that I want to talk to people with REAL experience.
Thanks girl _________________ A Lactivist:

Congratulations!!
I didn't have pre-term labor, but my doctor was very supportive of bf through pg. I think they've even questioned the relationship to contractions, but I may be wrong. I hope you can find a doc who know more! _________________ Jackie

I hadn't heard about that... (questioning the relationship to contractions).
I do know that they use nipple stimulation to induce labor once the woman is full term. _________________ http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-the-dangerous-and-invasive-mothers-act
