3-minute activist:
Spread the word! Post flyers around town, send press releases to local media, post banners on your site, and just get the word out!

Hot discussion topic:
Best and Worst Places to Breastfeed

NIP tip:
Know your state's laws on nursing

NIP Inspiration:
"Women shouldn't have to choose between breastfeeding and having a life. They should be able to go anywhere and do anything, with their baby in tow, and they should be able to breastfeed their baby whenever and wherever they happen to be when the baby needs to be fed." -- Katherine Dettwyler

What to say when confronted about NIP:

"My babies could be tantrumming now instead of being content--which would you prefer?" -- Karla

Get out and Nurse!

In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, we encourage our members and all breastfeeding mothers to go out during August 1-7 and breastfeed in public. We don't mean your regular routine; we mean go out specifically to nurse in public!!

Why participate in the National Nurse Out?

ProMoM hopes that by promoting the image of breastfeeding in this way, more people will accept breastfeeding as a natural everyday occurrence and the normal way to feed infants and young children. We also want to encourage expecting mothers by showing them that it is possible to breastfeed in public without anyone being embarrassed.

What you can do:

  • Sign our pledge to participate in the National Nurse Out
  • Let all your breastfeeding friends know about the National Nurse Out and this website
  • Get out and nurse in public as much as possible -- espescially during the National Nurse Out
  • Publicly display that you're a breastfeeding mom and that baby is breastfed-- wear breastfeeding t-shirts, pins, etc.
  • Buy and wear official National Nurse Out products
  • When you see another mom breastfeeding in public, thank and encourage her
  • Organize a local nurse-out (more info coming soon)
  • Print and post flyers in your area about the national nurse out
  • Participate in our National Nurse Out discussion forum and share the cause
  • Inform your local media about the National Nurse Out by sending them our press releases
  • Use our NNO banners on your website, email, and signatures

Let's join together and prove once and for all that nursing is a normal thing that no one needs to be embarrassed about!
