At a P. F. Chang's a manager tried to "help" a mother breastfeeding in the lobby by trying to cover her up and offer her a different place to nurse. Please thank the head manager at that restaurant for a change in their approach and urge the headquarters to give their managers training for situations like this to deal with the complaining customers and not approach the breastfeeding mother with "help."

The manager tried to "help" the mother by offering a towel and to move her to another location. The mother refused the help, got upset, left the restaurant, and emails quickly began to circulate on the internet. Thank you, Rachel, for your response in the weeks following this incident. You did your own research on the law in regards to breastfeeding and found that a mother may breastfeed her child in any location, public or private where the mother and child are authorized to be present. Thuy, I would like to suggest that P. F. Chang's attempt to avoid future situations like this by including in its employee training information with regards to breastfeeding. Since P. F. Chang's has locations in many different states, it may simplify training to consider the most progressive wording. For example, in Illinois the law states "A mother may breastfeed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether the nipple of the mother's breast is uncovered during or incidental to the breastfeeding; ...."
