Two of the members of the popular country band the Dixie Chicks have recently announced their pregnancies - according to news reports, Martie Maguire is expecting twins in May 2004, and Natalie Maines is expecting her second child in July 2004. Join us in congratulating them on their pregnancies, and encouraging them to breastfeed their babies.

I hope you are happy and healthy .What a joy it is to bring a new baby into the world - and with twins, double the joy! I wish you the best. At this time, I know you are considering many things with regards to the care of your babies. I'm writing to encourage you to breastfeed your babies. There has been a great deal of scientific research that supports breastfeeding as the best way to feed your baby. Breastmilk provides all the building blocks needed for your baby's growth and development plus antibodies that fight infections that are not provided by artificial infant formula. Research has shown that breastmilk has at least 100 substances not found in infant formula. Although the prospect of nursing twins may seem challenging, many women have successfully nursed two babies (and even three!). If you need advice on nursing twins, a certified lactation consultant can be of great use. Also consider a support group for breastfeeding mothers. Breastmilk can assist in some of the issues common with multiple babies such as prematurity or low birth weight. It will provide everything your babies need to grow up happy and healthy. If you do make the choice to breastfeed, I hope you'll let the world know what a wonderful start you have given your babies. You can make a positive impact on many women who look up to you.
