Your show has handled many family and social issues in a positive way, and helped spark important conversations. Breastfeeding needs this kind of support. I know there are young mothers out there that unfortunately don't have the support of their friends and family when they want to nurse their babies. Lucy can give them that support! I was so happy to hear on the show that Lucy plans to exclusively breastfeed Savannah for six months. That is exactly what the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends and just what people need to hear from smart, caring women like Lucy! You can see the AAP's brand new 2005 recommendations at: http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics;115/2/496 The media has a strong influence on our society and portraying a breastfeeding mother on your show has and will positively influence attitudes about breastfeeding in America. Although our national breastfeeding rates are improving, there is still much room for improvement. Many Americans need help recognizing that breastfeeding is a normal and healthy choice and your show can help with this by continuing to show Lucy breastfeeding. And if, as usual, you keep to "real folks" storylines, there will be more than enough instances when she will be challenged to defend this decision. Thank you for your time.
